Some choices will change with effect from 1 January 2027.
It will only be possible for your pension to start a maximum of 10 years before your statutory retirement age.
Every year, the government decides whether the statutory retirement age should increase. It looks at the increased life expectancy of the Dutch population. This is announced five years in advance. The statutory retirement age is currently 67 but will increase to 67 years and three months in 2028.
As the statutory retirement age could increase further in the future, the new scheme will allow you to apply for your pension up to 10 years before the statutory retirement age applicable at that time. Visit svb.nl to check your statutory retirement age.
The choice for a high-low pension will become a variable decreasing pension.
The new scheme will no longer include a high-low or low-high pension. The 'variable-increasing' and 'variable-decreasing' options will be available instead.
If you retire before 1 January 2027, you can choose to receive a higher or lower pension first. Would you like to start with a higher amount? Then choose high-low. You will then receive a higher amount initially, for a maximum of 10 years, which will then decrease afterwards. Would you prefer to start with a lower amount? Then choose low-high. Even if you choose a high-low or low-high pension before the transition, this will become a variable benefit in the new scheme.
If you retire on or after 1 January 2027 and choose a variable pension, your benefit will be variable. You can choose a variable benefit that increases or decreases by a fixed percentage each year in addition to the annual variable adjustment. This is called 'variable increasing' or 'variable decreasing'. You do not determine the percentage yourself; the board does this.
