Whether this is beneficial in your situation depends on your new employer’s pension scheme. You should therefore compare the schemes carefully, especially as the new SSPF pension scheme is expected to come into effect on 1 January 2027.
Check whether transferring your SSPF pension is beneficial for you
Under the new scheme, SSPF will be required to hold fewer reserves (buffer). This means that part of the buffer may be distributed among all participants. This will depend on our financial position at the time of the transition to the new scheme. If you no longer have a pension with us on 1 January 2027, you will not receive a share of the buffer. That is why it is important that you think carefully about whether you want to transfer your pension and when you do so. You may wish to seek advice from a financial adviser.

Find out more about the one-off distribution of the buffer using the Pension Explorer
The Pension Explorer not only explains how the distribution of the buffer works, but also shows an example of what the distribution of the buffer might mean for your pension. Please note: this is an estimate based on an average and is only intended to give you an idea. You will not receive a provisional personal statement, which includes the distribution of the buffer, until the end of 2026. You will receive a final statement in the spring of 2027.

Do you wish to transfer your SSPF pension before 1 January 2027?
This is possible, but only if we have received final approval from your new pension administrator by 1 November 2026.
You must apply to your new administrator to transfer your pension. They will assess whether a transfer is possible and calculate how much pension you will receive from them. If you agree with this, then you and your partner, if any, will sign the statement of agreement and return it to your new administrator. They will then contact us. If we receive the statement of agreement after 1 November 2026, we will only be able to restart your application after the transition, as soon as this is possible. You should therefore start your application in good time, as there are several steps involved between submitting your application and giving your agreement.
After 1 January 2027, it will not always be possible to transfer your pension immediately
Do you wish to transfer your SSPF pension after 1 January 2027? This is possible, but only if your new pension administrator has already adapted its scheme to the new statutory rules. If this conversion has not yet been completed but is planned, you will only be able to transfer your pension once the new administrator has finalised this. Once we have assessed your application, we will let you know whether you can transfer your pension immediately.
